전북대학교(총장 양오봉)가 9월 2일 전주캠퍼스 내에 ‘남원글로컬캠퍼스관리본부’를 개소하고, 본격적인 캠퍼스 운영 준비에 착수했다.

이날 개소식에는 양오봉 총장과 윤명숙 남원글로컬캠퍼스관리본부장(대외취업부총장)을 비롯한 대학 주요 관계자, 이성호 남원부시장 등 지역 관계자들이 참석해 남원글로컬캠퍼스의 출발을 함께 축하했다.

전북대는 교육부 글로컬대학30 사업의 일환으로 남원 서남대 옛 부지를 유학생 전용 캠퍼스로 재생해왔다. 내년부터는 글로컬커머스학과(정원 100명), 한국어학과(80명), K-엔터테인먼트학과(70명) 등 3개 학과를 신설해 운영한다. 전담 전임교수를 새롭게 채용해 교육뿐 아니라 학생 생활 전반에 걸친 지원 체계를 구축할 예정이다.

특히 전북대는 남원글로컬캠퍼스를 단순한 유학생 유치 공간에 그치지 않고, 학생들을 지역에 정주시켜 지역소멸 방지와 지역경제 활성화까지 이어지는 선순환 구조를 만드는 것을 목표로 하고 있다.

이번에 문을 연 관리본부는 유학생 학사 지도, 생활 지원, 행정 운영 등 전반을 총괄하는 컨트롤타워 기능을 수행할 예정이다. 교육환경 마련, 지역 협력 체계 구축, 유학생 유치 지원 등을 담당하며 2027년 3월 남원글로컬캠퍼스가 남원에 구축이 완료되면 이전할 예정이다.

양오봉 총장은 “남원글로컬캠퍼스는 단순한 유학생 유치기관이 아니라 지역의 자산과 문화를 세계와 연결하고 함께 성장하는 대학의 모델로 만들겠다”며 “남원시와의 긴밀한 협력을 통해 성공적인 정착을 준비하겠다”고 강조했다.



Opening of Namwon Glocal Campus Management Headquarters and Launch of Campus Preparations


Jeonbuk National University (JBNU, President Oh-Bong Yang) officially opened the Namwon Glocal Campus Management Headquarters on September 2 at its Jeonju campus, marking the beginning of full-scale preparations for the new campus in Namwon.

The opening ceremony was attended by President Oh-Bong Yang, Vice President Myung-Sook Yoon, Head of the Namwon Glocal Campus Management Headquarters, key university officials, as well as Seong-Ho Lee, Deputy Mayor of Namwon, and other local representatives who celebrated the launch of the campus project.

Under the Ministry of Education’s Glocal University 30 initiative, JBNU has been redeveloping the former Seonam University site in Namwon to create a dedicated campus for international students. Beginning next year, three new departments — Glocal Commerce (100 students), Korean Language (80 students), and K-Entertainment (70 students) — will be launched with newly appointed full-time professors to provide both academic instruction and comprehensive student support. JBNU aims not only to attract international students but also to help them settle in the region, building a virtuous cycle that contributes to preventing population decline and revitalizing the local economy.

The new management headquarters will serve as a control tower overseeing academic guidance, student life support, and administrative operations. It will also play a central role in building a strong educational environment, fostering local partnerships, and supporting international student recruitment. The headquarters will later relocate to the Namwon Glocal Campus once its construction is completed in March 2027.

President Yang emphasized, “The Namwon Glocal Campus will not simply be an institution for attracting international students but will become a model of higher education that connects regional assets and culture with the world. In close cooperation with Namwon City, we will ensure its successful establishment and growth.”
