Department Introduction
The Department of Social Welfare at Jeonbuk National University was established in 1988 as the Department of Child Welfare within the College of Social Sciences, and changed its name one year later in 1989, remaining so to this day.
Following the academic reorganization of Jeonbuk National University in 1999, the Department of Social Welfare was merged with the Department of Public Administration into a single school, newly reorganized as the 'School of Public Administration and Welfare,' where students begin studying social welfare in earnest starting from their second year.

Social Welfare is an academic discipline that explores the diverse human relationships surrounding social welfare phenomena and teaches systematic and purposeful practice methods based on a human-centered philosophy. Therefore, it requires not only the completion of courses to establish a theoretical foundation in social welfare but also practical experience in the field based on that foundation. In the Department of Social Welfare, students generally learn foundational social welfare courses, social welfare policy courses focusing on social insurance, public assistance, and social welfare service systems, and social welfare practice courses focused on resolving the various socio-psychological problems faced by social welfare recipients.
Can I obtain a social worker license
Most of the courses in the Department of Social Welfare consist of subjects that enable students to obtain a social worker license. Upon graduation after completing the required coursework, students can acquire a Level 2 Social Worker license. Additionally, students can obtain a Level 1 Social Worker license through the national examination. Our Department of Social Welfare achieved the remarkable feat of having all applicants pass the Level 1 National Social Worker Examination in the 1st session in 2003 and the 2nd session in 2004, and we even produced the top scorer in the 1st examination.

Social Welfare is a specialized academic field focused on training professional civil servants and social workers involved in the operation of social welfare systems and social welfare practice. Therefore, the career paths for graduates majoring in social welfare are as follows: First, in the public service, graduates can enter Grade 5 social welfare, correctional, or probation positions through the Civil Service Examination, or become Grade 9 social welfare civil servants. Second, as researchers or scholars, they can join social welfare-related research institutes operated by the government or the private sector, or become professors at universities or colleges. Third, graduates can obtain a social worker license, which enables them to enter social welfare agencies, organizations, and facilities in various fields such as elderly welfare, community welfare, mental health, child and youth welfare, and disability welfare.
