Department of Public Administration and Policy
The Department of Public Administration at Jeonbuk National University began on December 9, 1972, with the establishment of the Departments of Political Science, Law, and Public Administration within the then College of Law and Political Science, and recruited its first freshmen in February 1973. Subsequently, in 1983, the Department of Public Administration was transferred to the College of Social Sciences, which consisted of four departments: Sociology, Psychology, Political Science and Diplomacy, and Public Administration. In 1988, two new departments—Social Welfare and Journalism and Broadcasting—were established, bringing the department to its current state. Furthermore, the Department of Public Administration was established within the Graduate School of Public Administration (launched in 1983), a specialized graduate school, as well as master's and doctoral programs in the general graduate school (established in 1992). To this day, the department has produced high-ranking officials for central government ministries, local governments, and major public enterprises, as well as heads of local governments.
Department Educational Objectives
- Public Administration is a discipline of the principle that "the answer to our problems lies in the field." Students in the Department of Public Administration at Jeonbuk National University cultivate competencies regarding the entire administrative process, which involves defining and diagnosing social problems, proposing and implementing alternatives, and evaluating and providing feedback on the results.
- The Department of Public Administration at Jeonbuk National University organizes its curriculum and extracurricular activities in accordance with the National Competency Standards (NCS) and implements the JBNU Practical Competency Certification System. Based on the NCS, students in the Department of Public Administration grow into talented individuals through intensive education and self-directed learning in six core competency areas (communication, creativity, character, practical skills, adventure, and culture).

- The most common path for graduating with a degree in Public
Administration is becoming a national or local government official.
Civil servants include: administrative officials in central and local governments (Higher Civil Service Examination, Grade 7, Grade 9, Regional Talent), police, educational administration, taxation, prosecution, and other positions. - Graduates are employed in various government-related organizations, including public corporations and public institutions , as well as the National Assembly Secretariat, international organizations, government-funded institutions, and government-invested agencies.
They are found employment in public corporations such as Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), Korea National Oil Corporation (KNOC), Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-Water), Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), Korea Mint Corporation, Korea Gas Corporation, and Korea Rural Community Corporation. They are also advancing to the National Pension Service, the National Health Insurance Service, and regional airport and port authorities like Incheon International Airport Corporation and Incheon Port Authority. Furthermore, they can enter financial institutions such as Jeonbuk Bank, Nonghyup, and Kookmin Bank.
