간호대, 美 미네소타대와 글로벌 PBL…미래형 간호인재 양성
전북대학교 간호대학(학장 김혜영)이 미래 보건의료 환경을 이끌어갈 융합형 글로벌 간호 인재 양성을 위해 미국 미네소타대학(University of Minnesota)과 손잡고 ‘글로벌 PBL(문제중심학습)’ 프로그램을 실시한다.
간호대학은 여름방학 중 우수 학부생 11명을 선발해 ‘JBNU-UMN Nursing Glocal PBL’ 프로그램을 운영한다고 24일 밝혔다.
이번 프로그램은 간호대학생들이 학부 단계에서부터 인공지능(AI), 디지털 헬스, 스마트 의료기기 등 급변하는 첨단 의료기술을 이해하고, 이를 간호 실무에 연결해 활용할 수 있는 융합형 역량을 키우기 위해 기획됐다.
이를 위해 간호대학은 여름방학 기간에 미국 미네소타대학 교수님들이 주관하는 특강을 개최하고, 오는 8월 5박 7일(8/22-8/28) 일정으로 학생과 교수진이 미국 현지를 방문해 선진 간호교육 환경과 첨단 의료현장을 직접 체험할 예정이라고 밝혔다.
이번 글로벌 PBL은 단순한 해외 기관 방문을 넘어선 ‘현장 연계형’ 교류라는 점이 가장 큰 특징이다. 학생들은 글로벌 PBL 활동을 통해 임상현장에서 발생하는 비효율성이나 안전 문제를 스스로 발견하고, 이를 AI 및 디지털 헬스 기술을 활용해 개선할 수 있는 실천적인 해결 방안을 모색한다.
특히 참여 학생들은 미국 방문 기간 동안 미네소타대학 간호학과를 비롯해 세계 최고 수준의 의료기관인 메이요 클리닉(Mayo Clinic) 본원, 다국적 혁신 기업 3M 등을 찾는다. 아울러 암 센터와 어린이병원 등 다양한 현지 임상실습 기관(M Health Fairview 소속)을 방문해 선진화된 의료 서비스 시스템을 폭넓게 경험할 예정이다.
전북대 간호대학은 이번 교류를 시작으로 학생 파견을 확대하고, 향후 공과대학(바이오메디컬공학, 인공지능, 컴퓨터공학 등)과 연계한 다학제간 융복합 교육(IPE) 프로그램으로 발전시켜 나갈 계획이다. 이를 통해 도출된 학생들의 우수 아이디어가 후속 연구나 특허 기술 개발, 실제 의료 현장 적용으로 이어질 수 있도록 지원할 방침이다.
이 프로그램을 주관하는 장형은 교수는 “이번 글로벌 PBL을 통해 방학 중 학생들이 선진 의료 환경을 경험하고, 해외 우수 대학 학생들과의 교류를 통해 문화적 수용성과 글로벌 의사소통 능력을 높일 수 있을 것”이라며, “국제적 시야와 실무 혁신 역량을 두루 갖춘 미래형 간호 인재로 성장하는 중요한 발판이 될 것으로 기대한다”고 말했다.
JBNU College of Nursing Partners With University of Minnesota for Global PBL...Training Future-Ready Nursing Talent
Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) College of Nursing (Dean Hye-young Kim) will run a 'Global PBL (Problem-Based Learning)' program in collaboration with the University of Minnesota to cultivate convergent, global nursing professionals who will lead the future health-care environment.
The College announced on the 24th that it will select 11 outstanding undergraduate students during the summer break to participate in the 'JBNU-UMN Nursing Glocal PBL' program.
This program was designed to help nursing students at the undergraduate level understand rapidly evolving advanced medical technologies—such as artificial intelligence (AI), digital health, and smart medical devices—and to develop convergent capabilities that connect and apply these technologies to nursing practice.
To this end, the College will hold special lectures during the summer break led by faculty from the University of Minnesota. From August 22 to 28, students and faculty will travel to the United States for a five‑night, seven‑day program to directly experience advanced nursing education environments and cutting‑edge clinical settings.
The Global PBL is primarily characterized as a field‑linked exchange that goes beyond a simple overseas institutional visit. Through Global PBL activities, students identify inefficiencies and safety issues arising in clinical settings and seek practical solutions that utilize AI and digital health technologies.
During the U.S. visit, participating students will visit the University of Minnesota's Department of Nursing as well as world‑class medical institutions including the Mayo Clinic main campus and multinational innovation company 3M. They will also visit a variety of local clinical training sites affiliated with M Health Fairview, such as cancer centers and children's hospitals, to gain broad experience of advanced medical service systems.
Building on this exchange, the College of Nursing plans to expand student dispatches and develop the program into an interdisciplinary convergence education (Interprofessional Education, IPE) program linked with the College of Engineering (including biomedical engineering, artificial intelligence, and computer engineering). The College will support outstanding student ideas that emerge so they can proceed to follow‑up research, patentable technologies, or real‑world clinical application.
Professor Hyung-eun Jang, who is leading this program, said, 'Through this Global PBL, students will experience advanced medical environments during the break and, through exchanges with students from top overseas universities, enhance cultural receptivity and global communication skills. We expect this to serve as an important stepping stone for students to grow into future‑oriented nursing professionals equipped with both an international perspective and practical innovation capabilities.'
