We are living in an era where computers play an essential role in our daily lives. Most of the information we produce, manage, and consume is now created and distributed through computers. Traditional analog tools and objects are rapidly becoming intelligent and digital, thanks to ongoing technological advances.
Since the first computer was developed using vacuum tubes, the field has seen remarkable growth over the past 80 years. This rapid evolution, coupled with the explosive development of communication and networking technologies, has enabled countless computers—large and small—to interact and share information across the globe. These interconnected systems generate massive amounts of data far beyond what humans can process unaided.
In this environment, artificial intelligence technologies—ranging from AlphaGo to the latest large language models (LLMs)—are continuing to evolve at an astonishing pace, offering even more effective and diverse ways to support and enhance human life.
At Jeonbuk National University, the Department of Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence was selected in 2022 for the Software-Centered University Program, a national initiative. This designation has allowed us to establish robust partnerships with leading industries in Korea, integrating cutting-edge technologies and practical skills into our curriculum. As a result, we are continually refining our educational programs to strengthen our students' on-site technical skills, AI competencies, and self-directed learning abilities.
Our ongoing efforts aim to proactively respond to the rapid changes in the fields of computer science and artificial intelligence. Through strong support for both education and research, our ultimate goal is to foster graduates who will lead and innovate in their respective fields.
We invite you to take on new challenges with us at the Department of Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence at Jeonbuk National University—where outstanding faculty, motivated students, and a commitment to global excellence come together to shape the future.
