Jeonbuk National University
The Department of Oriental Medicine Resource at Jeonbuk National University is dedicated to protecting humanity from diseases and preventing their onset through alternative medicine, while also exploring the suitability of various plants for human health based on physiological functions.
The department leads the foundation of the 21st-century well-being industry, particularly the functional food sector, by researching the characteristics, utilization, and cultivation methods of medicinal plants. Through the application of biotechnology, the program develops high-value functional materials, ensures mass production of useful substances, and nurtures specialists capable of advancing pharmaceuticals and functional herbal food industries.
Specialized education is provided in areas such as medicinal plant production (including medicinal crop tissue culture and plant physiology), functional foods, natural product chemistry, and biochemistry. Additionally, to train certified Herbal Medicine Wholesale Managers (recognized by the Ministry of Health and Welfare), the department offers practical training in basic theories of oriental medicine, herbal medicine management (production, authentication, storage), and pharmaceutical quality control, cultivating talented professionals who will lead the future of herbal science.
