Materials Engineering
Our major has focused on the development of the core technologies based on material synthesis and device fabrication which can be applied to newly emerging fields of nano-technology (NT), information-technology (IT), environmental-technology (ET), bio-technology (BT), and IT+NT fusion technology (INT). Students mainly study semiconductors and new-functional materials and devices for the information technology such as communications(cellular phone, optical fiber, laser diode, photo diode), display (TFT-LCD, PDP, FED) and data storage/processes(digital camera, RAM, DVD, micro-processor, CPU, MP3). Also, the renewable energy such as solar cells and fuel cells is one of our major subjects. Today the knowledge on the synthesis techniques of new-conceptual materials including nano-sized semiconductors and understanding their fundamental physics and chemistry are recognized as the most important points for the superior device applications. How do we understand, control, and reproduce the basic properties of the advanced high-tech materials? How can we make use of them? How can we make sure that they operate without failure? How can we apply them to the commercial market? These are the representative questions that the Major of Information Materials Engineering tries to pursue.
To develop leading experts in high-tech parts and materials fields
