Our Department’s Educational Objective
Department of Korean music of JeonBuk National University started in 1988 with the purpose to develop and inherit traditional music and have developed as a competitive department among universities with the goal to forster outstanding talented students through accepting the different education programs and systems which are based on regional characteristic of Jeonbuk, the birthplace of traditional music. In 1990, master’s course is opened and doctorate course is also established in 2008. Through this, more professional education became available. In order to actively cope with the trend of government policy and changes in the 21st century, we intend to provide creative education in the 21st century paradigm with comprehensive capabilities encompassing the time, internationality and leadership based on expertise. In addition, by introducing and educating specialized customized programs by largely reorganizing the existing curriculum of the Department, we fosters talent with comprehensive expertise, including professional performers, composers, musicologists, culture and arts educators, entertainers, planning/director, and cultural engineers.

The department of Korean music promotes excellence of our traditional music to worldwide!
The department of Korean music is established in 1988, trying to promote our music to all over the world based on systemic learning and practice which aim to develop and inherit our traditional music. During the 97‘ Muju-Jeonju Winter Universiade, university folk art groups from six countries, including Spain, Russia, Japan, China, and the United States, were invited to hold “the World University Folk Art Festival“, From 2000 to 2002, we participated in the Summer Event which is co-hosted by the Ministry of National Defense and the Korea-U.S. Cultural Foundation and toured 36 cities including Toronto, Canada and United States.
In addition, we toured Eastern Europe such as France, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia in 1999.
In 2014, invited from China Maritime University, we co-performed with traditional Chinese music performers.
From 2015 to 2018, we participate “New Hanryu Creative Talent Project” in JBNU and perform "new Hanryu Festival" in USA, Philippines and Greece etc. Through a number of overseas performances, the excellence of Korean music is announced.

Our Pride
- In order to improve students' performance capabilities, various concerts such as regular concerts, graduation concerts, and freshman concerts are regularly planned and performed.
- Graduates' active activities not only in Jeonbuk but also in various fields such as performance organizations and research institutes nationwide.
- Selected as the best arts major in 2012.
- Produced a large number of winners of the Presidential Award for enrolled students and graduates.
Characteristics of department education
- Customized program to train art talents in string, wind, vocal, percussion, creation (practical music composition, composition), theory, and art management.
- Program to foster Arts & Culture Education trainer (in the fields of early childhood education, elementary education, secondary education, and social education)
