• Using carbon and nitrogen isotope ratio techniques for diverse environmental studies
• Effects of coarse woody debris on soil biogeochemistry, such as nitrogen cycling, enzyme activities, greenhouse gas emission, in reclaimed cover soils in oil sands landscape
• Evaluation of historical climate and environment changes using tree ring growth and chemistry including carbon and nitrogen concentration and their isotope ratio, and cation concentrations.
• Effects of simulated nitrogen and sulfur depositions on soil nitrogen cycling, annual tree growth and ring chemistry, and understory species diversity
• Best management practices to enhance carbon sequestration and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from agroforestry systems
• Developing biochar using different feedstocks under different pyrolysis conditions and developing relationships among feedstock type, pyrolysis condition, biochar properties and metal sorption capacity
