Membrane permeation is a separation process involving the selective transport of gas or liquid molecules through a permeable bulk or film. It has several industrial applications, including enhanced oil recovery, inert gas generation, and ammonia production. Another important application is for waste gas treatment. To conform to government regulations, membranes can be installed to filter out the harmful emissions.
Our group is engaged in developing ion transport membrane (ITM) based on the mixed ionic and electronic conductors (MIECs) for gas separation. Our research is focused on perovskite based oxide systems for hydrogen or oxygen permeation as well as novel fabrication of membranes.
