Clinical Pediatrics
Pediatrics is concerned with the health of infants, children and youth, their growth and development, and their opportunity to achieve full potential as adults. The lectures cover the fundamentals of growth and development, nutrition and nutritional disorders, preventive pediatrics and epidemiology, prenatal disturbances, metabolic diseases, the fetus and neonate, immunity and allergy, fluid and electrolyte balance, psychological problems, and infectious diseases. Lectures also cover the specific diseases of each organ system. The major undergraduate teaching effort of the department of Pediatrics occurs mainly in the second year (4 credits).
Clerkship in Pediatrics
Each student takes a four-week Clerkship at The Chonbuk National University Hospital. Students are responsible for history taking, physical examination, formulation of a diagnosis, student topic reviews, and problem cases conferences. Study and care of patients is augmented by daily lectures or conferences for students, by professor and resident physician rounds, and by attendance at departmental conferences. Formal teaching seminars are scheduled, highlighting various aspects of general pediatrics, as well as its subspecialties (4 credits).
