Introduction
Preventive Medicine
Preventive medicine is a branch of medicine that specializes in protecting, maintaining, and promoting the health and well-being of individuals or specific populations, and preventing disease, disability, and premature death. Preventive medicine uses statistical and epidemiological research methods to identify the causes and risk factors of disease and its natural history in populations, assess sociocultural factors and behavioral patterns that influence health, and evaluate new treatments and health programs. These preventive medicine research findings are used to develop health policies, plan health programs, and implement health administration and management to prevent and control environmental and occupational factors that harm health. Preventive medicine also provides clinical preventive medical services to individuals, families, or populations to promote health and prevent the onset, progression, and disability of disease and injury.
Biostatistics
Statistics seeks to explain and understand population parameters through sample estimates. In medical research, researchers often address research questions through statistical estimation and testing, making it an essential skill for medical students. This course is offered in the second year of medical school.
Epidemiology
Epidemiology is the study of disease and health in populations. It studies the distribution of diseases and the factors that determine these distributions, and utilizes these findings for disease prevention and health promotion. This course is offered in the second semester of the first year of medical school, as part of "Patients and Doctors Society 2."
Environmental and Occupational Health
This field of study studies health disorders caused by physical and chemical factors in the living or working environment, and aims to prevent environmental pollution and occupational diseases through this research. This course is offered in the first semester of the second year of medical school, as part of "Patients and Doctors Society 3."
Health Care Management and Health and Medical Laws
Health care management refers to the planning, implementation, and evaluation of health care services to improve the health of individuals and groups. Medical students learn about health and medical policy, health insurance, and health-related behaviors. It is also offered in the second semester of the second year of medical school in "Patient-Doctor Society 4," along with Health and Medical Laws, a required subject for the national exam.
